As a North Carolina wedding photographer, I’ve worked with many vendors throughout the years.  The common theme that I see with every wedding I work, is that when a couple takes the time to hire awesome vendors that they truly believe in, the results are always 100 times more amazing!

So what’s the key to an awesome vendor?  That's simple.  Trust!  Trust is the number one thing you need to have with each of your vendors.  You need to trust them to do what you hired them to do.  See, trusting your vendors gives you freedom on your wedding day.  Freedom to relax and enjoy it.  Your mind will be at ease and you won’t have to think about all the little details since you know they are being taken care of.  I’m always shocked when I hear stories of a bride or groom who are clearly don't trust their vendors on the wedding day.  The first question I would ask these couples is, “Why did you hire them if you don’t believe they’ll do their job the right way?”  When you meet with a vendor for a consultation, you should have all the warm, fuzzy, happy feelings inside.  You should feel comfortable with them and believe in their business and what they can provide you.  They should seem just as excited about your day as you are!  If for some reason you don’t feel these things or are questioning a vendor even in the slightest, that means you need to keep looking.

Now, just because a vendor was perfect for someone else’s wedding doesn’t mean they will be perfect for yours.  Every wedding is different, and every bride and groom have different needs.  So make sure you meet with all your vendors before signing a contract and booking them.  You will be spending a lot of time with these people on your wedding day, so you want to make sure your personalities click!

I know it’s not easy finding the perfect vendors for your wedding.  I was a bride once too!  There are hundreds of wedding professionals out there and it can be exhausting sifting through the endless Google searches.  Here are my top two ways to find rock star vendors:

  1. Referrals!  This is the #1 way to find your vendors.   Referrals can be from friends and family,  but they can also come from other vendors you already hired!  Don't hesitate to ask a fellow vendor who they would recommend!
  2. Instagram!  Search local wedding hashtags (or general wedding hashtags if you don’t mind out of state vendors) and scroll through the Instagram feed.  This is especially useful for photographers and designers or wedding planners.  If a photo pops out at you, see who the vendor is and what role they played in that wedding!

Choosing amazing vendors might be hard, but will be the best decision you make for your wedding day.  You want your day to run smoothly, look great, and most importantly, be FUN! A rock star vendor team will make this happen!
